Help document the greatest dumbest thing we’ve ever done twice on film

help produce a #BrokenRecordShow documentary film

Last year’s #BrokenRecordShow was SO FUN. We shot video of the entire show to meet GUINNESS’ evidence requirements but we really wish we could have filmed a documentary about what we were doing. We have all the resources we need to successfully run this 8-day long show and beat our own world record, but we don’t have the equipment we need to film a behind the scenes documentary about doing this very dumb thing (again). That’s where you come in.

We’ve launched an IndieGoGo crowd-funding campaign to pay for the minimum equipment we need to film a documentary.

What We Need

  • Three GoPro Hero4 cameras (3 x $329 = $987)
  • Six 64GB SD cards (6 x $24 = $144)
  • One USB hard drive ($125)
  • If we raise more money than the bare minimum we need ($1256 + 10% to cover the fees IndieGoGo will take out), maybe we’ll be able to buy a MacBook Pro to edit this thing on and be able to compensate people who help us out.

What You’ll Get
We appreciate your help. Here’s some ways we’ll thank you:

  • VIP all-access passes to the show May 15-23 at The East Room in Nashville, TN – watch hundreds of comics driven to madness by a relentless amount of comedy as many times as you want.
  • Tickets to an Exclusive Advance Screening of the finished film
  • Digital download of the finished film
  • YOUR NAME in the credits of the film / on IMDB
  • Weird other stuff?

Risks & Challenges
We HAVE done this before. That said, God is cruel and there are several ways he could possibly smote us:

  • The East Room is destroyed by terrorists who hate freedom and comedy.
  • What if we DON’T break our own world record? We’ll look pretty dumb, won’t we? The big difference is we first broke the world record after 80 hours and this time it’s going to take us 184 hours and 16 minutes to do it. That’s many more opportunities to screw this up.

Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help:

  • Please tell your friends on social media!
  • Volunteer to help! Last year we had over 60 volunteers and we couldn’t have done the show without them.
  • SHOW UP at the show! We need butts in the seats. Everybody will be much more comfortable with a full audience.
  • Join the NashvilleStandUp.com mailing list & follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube.
  • Steal money from some richie rich person who doesn’t deserve what they have and THEN contribute with THAT money.
  • Wherever you live, go find the local comedy shows and comedians and support them. The super famous incredible “breakout” comics of 10-15 years from now are trying standup comedy for the first time ever this week and you could be there to see them.

Thank you very much for donating and we hope to see you at the show!

Nashville StandUp Now Accepting Submissions From Comics Wishing To Perform On World Record Breaking #BrokenRecordShow

Beginning at 11:59am on Sunday, May 15th, 2016, Nashville StandUp will attempt to top it’s own GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” at The East Room in Nashville, TN.

Any comedians who meet GUINNESS’ professional requirements are now welcome to submit an application to perform online at BrokenRecordShow.com.

Nashville StandUp’s first “Broken Record Comedy Show” ran non-stop at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee from Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 12:04pm to Monday, April 20 at 4:20am, setting the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title at 184 hours, 16 minutes. The show, which kicked off with show idea man DJ Buckley and concluded with Nashville Standup’s Chad Riden, also featured about 100 other comedians from all over the country, including surprise celebrity guest sets from nationally-touring artists such as Hannibal Buress, Eric Andre, Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Luis J. Gomez, Keith Alberstadt, Jon Reep, Ahmed Ahmed and Killer Beaz.

The previous 80-hour record was previously held by the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA, for a show which ran December 6-9, 2010. By more than doubling the previous record, #BrokenRecordShow’s non-stop stand up comedy marathon put Nashville into the record books of comedy history. A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title Adjudicator was on site to certify the attempt as an official world record on Wednesday April 15th at 8pm, but the show continued until Monday, April 20th, at 4:20am. Hundreds of people attended the event and even more watched online. The successful attempt was covered by local and international media outlets and has already become a thing of legend.

The brainchild of Nashville-based comic DJ Buckley, this record-breaking show is being co-produced by Nashville-based comedian Chad Riden, The East Room’s Ben Jones and comedian Mary Jay Berger.

“This show is the best thing I’ve ever done, and if it never stopped I’d be fine with it,” says D.J. Buckley. “Last year, I got to see a lot of funny comics and great people come together to work on something none of us could have accomplished by ourselves, and I think this year will be even better since we actually know what we’re doing this time.”

“It’s the greatest dumbest thing we’ve ever done twice,” Chad Riden smirks. “If you asked me that old guidance counselor question, ‘if you could do anything in the world, what would you rather be doing right now?’ the answer would always be ‘a stand-up comedy show.’ We figured out a way to be able to do comedy all day, every day and it was a dream come true. I’ve missed the first show ever since we ended it and I’m really excited to be doing it again. Maybe this time we just won’t ever stop. Nobody can ever beat our record if our show never ends.”

“Breaking our own record this year is an attempt to further show the legitimacy of the comics in Nashville,” says The East Room’s Ben Jones. “To break the record by a mere 5 minutes is to compete with the absurdity of last year’s successful attempt to more than double the previous record.”

Tickets are on sale now at special early bird prices. One Day Passes are available for $10, All Access Passes, allowing comedy fans to come and go for the duration of the show are currently available for $40, and VIP Passes, which include reserved seating, an official show t-shirt, and Broken Record letterpress, are available for a limited time at $80.

It’s the greatest dumbest thing we’ve ever done twice.

“This show is the best thing I’ve ever done, and if it never stopped I’d be fine with it. Last year, I got to see a lot of funny comics and great people come together to work on something none of us could have accomplished by ourselves, and I think this year will be even better since we actually know what we’re doing this time.”

– D.J. Buckley is a lovable goofball who loves telling jokes and pushing limits

“If you asked me that old guidance counselor question, ‘if you could do anything in the world, what would you rather be doing right now?’ the answer would always be ‘a stand-up comedy show.’ We figured out a way to be able to do comedy all day, every day and it was a dream come true. I’ve missed the first showever since we ended it and I’m really excited to be doing it again. Maybe this time we just won’t ever stop. Nobody can ever beat our record if our show never ends.

The celebrity guest drop-ins are always exciting but watching young comics evolve is magical. The only way to develop as a comic is by getting stage time, and this show provides plenty of it. Last year, some comics took that opportunity and made incredible use of it. Personally, I logged about 30 hours on stage over the course of eight days. Most touring comics would take at least 5-6 weeks to do those kinds of numbers. It was crazy to see young comics who had previously thought they weren’t capable of doing a 30 minute set hone and pace themselves and master doing a half hour. You could see the comics who really put in the work develop right in front of you and grow so comfortable on stage that they were able to throw away the constraints of pre-written bits and totally improvise for hours and be funnier than they’ve ever been before.”

– Chad Riden is America’s Favorite Comedian Of All Time

“Breaking our own record this year is an attempt to further show the legitimacy of the comics in Nashville. To break the record by a mere 5 minutes is to compete with the absurdity of last year’s successful attempt to more than double the previous record.”

Nashville StandUp’s “Broken Record Comedy Show” Shatters Previous GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Apr. 23, 2015 — Nashville StandUp’s “Broken Record Comedy Show” ended its 184 hour, 16 minute run at 4:20am April 20, 2015, setting the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for: “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS.”

Labeled as, “The Greatest Dumbest Thing We’ve Ever Done!” The show ran non-stop at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 12:04pm with DJ Buckley and ending Monday April 20 at 4:20am with Chad Riden.

The previous 80-hour record had been held by the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA, for a show which ran from 6 to 9 December 2010. That show included 170 different acts by 150 comedians.

The 80-hour mark was surpassed on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 8:04pm while DJ Buckley was performing. Official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator Michael Empric was on site to announce the new record saying, “I’m so excited to announce that with 80 hours and two minutes, you guys have set a new Guinness World Record!” The standing room only crowd at The East Room erupted into cheers, carrying co-host D.J. Buckley on their shoulders with the framed certificate from GUINNESS raised high above his head.

As the crowd settled down, co-host Chad Riden performed a set, saying he did not want the show to ever end. “If we never stop, nobody can ever beat us unless they already started before we did or we die first.” The show continued through the entire duration of Nashville’s Wild West Comedy Festival, which was conducive to celebrity drop-in sets from Hannibal Buress, Rory Scovel, Al Jackson, Eric Andre, Nate Bargatze, Keith Alberstadt, Ahmed Ahmed, Killer Beaz and Jon Reep.

The show finally began wrapping up Sunday night April 19th as the regularly scheduled weekly SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show presented the “Bestival of the Festival” showcase featuring stand-out performances from crowd favorites Mary Jay Berger, Brad Edwards, Carter Glascock, Monty Mitchell, Jonathan Craig, Brett Cantrell, Narado Moore, Joe Kelley and Jim Seward.

After an amazing set where Narado Moore improvised unflattering impressions of lackluster out of town guest comics, the marathon show came to an end early Monday morning, April 20th with show producers DJ Buckley and Chad Riden doing their final sets. “I want to do this again next year,” said Riden. “I think we have to. I want to break our own record by five minutes just to show that we know how silly and pointless this all is.” As the official clock neared 4:20 a.m., Riden thanked show co-producers Mary Jay Berger, Ben Jones and DJ Buckley, along with Zanies Comedy Clubs’ Brian Dorfman, comedian Nate Bargatze, the Wild West Comedy Festival, Outback Concerts, the dozens of volunteers who staffed the event, the comics who performed and everybody who was in attendance to a standing ovation before hopping off stage.
